During his day, Gary Cooper’s reputation as a snappy
dresser was such that he was named in Irving Berlin’s 1930 song- Puttin’ on the
Ritz. His appeal lay not just in his enviable machismo, but in how he dressed
appropriately for every occasion, from hunting with his camping buddy Ernest
Hemingway to lounging on a yacht. Copper is a true Style Icon.
Different types who wear a daycoat, pants with stripes
& cut away coat, perfect fits,
Puttin' on the Ritz.
Dressed up like a million dollar trouper
Trying hard to look like Gary Cooper
Super Duper
Come let's mix where Rockefellers walk with sticks
Or umbrellas in their mitts
Puttin' on the Ritz

Coop was undoubtedly a 'man's man.' Women wanted him and men wanted to be in him. Or have him in them. I'd rather Ramon Navarro, than Cooper. I can't imagine him talking dirty in his staccato delivery, which only makes my father's favorite Cooper quote even funnier: "Be. Careful. Some of that. Is gettin. In yer mouth!"
